During the visit, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was briefed on the converter shop’s key role in Qarmet’s steelmaking operations.
The President was shown how molten iron from the blast furnace is converted into steel, which is then sent to continuous casting machines before undergoing further processing in the rolling mills.
In 2024, Qarmet carried out a major overhaul of converters No. 1 and No. 2, fully replacing their vessels with more advanced designs.
The modernization will enable the company to expand its product range, increase steel output and improve equipment reliability. Work is also continuing to convert a number of technological processes to natural gas.
