The Head of State got acquainted with the plans for revival of Bolgar town and town-island of Sviyazhsk, whose territory accommodates the Assumption Cathedral and the Monastery.
Works on preserving the Assumption Cathedral have been carried out since 1954. In the 1970s-1980s, the wall fresco painting of the cathedral was fully explored and studied.
The present stage of conserving and renewing the Bolgar heritage complex began in the 1990s, when this work became the important state program of Tatarstan.
