The Secretary of State expressed a sincere gratitude to Ivar Vikki for his fruitful work as OSCE Ambassador and noted the contribution made by the Center to the development of cooperation between our country and the OSCE.
“The positive decision on Kazakhstan’s bid to chair the OSCE in 2010 made in Madrid last year is an unconditional recognition by the world community of the real reforms and impressive progress that Kazakhstan has made over the years of independence under the leadership of President Nursultan Nazarbayev. This is also a result of our joint long-standing efforts on developing democracy in Kazakhstan,” Kanat Saudabayev said initiating the meeting.
The OSCE Ambassador thanked for the high appreciation of his work in Kazakhstan and expressed his hope for further cooperation.
“I would like to congratulate Kazakhstan on the Madrid decision. I am sure Kazakhstan will recommend itself at the very responsible and difficult post of OSCE Chairman. Also, I would like to say that Chairman-in-Office Ilkka Kanerva will visit Kazakhstan in June this year,” Ivar Vikki said.
Issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE in preparation for the chairmanship in 2010 were discussed at the meeting. It was emphasized that Kazakhstan expects its active assistance with the OSCE Center in those areas and spheres where Kazakhstan’s chairmanship could be most productive.
