President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a telephone conversation with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the implementation of the two governments’ tasks on liquidation of consequences of flooding in the border areas of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan caused by the burst of Sardoba dam.

The two Presidents commended close and coordinated interaction of the parties in solving the priority tasks of evacuation and social support of the population, restoring engineering and transport infrastructure.

The Uzbek leader noted with gratitude the commitment of our peoples to the spirit of friendship and good-neighborliness and their readiness to overcome any difficulties together. Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated the intention of the Uzbek side to continue to provide full assistance, including exchanging information and working openly on the restoration of the dam, taking into account the interests of Kazakhstan and the principles of the international law.

In turn, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the support and feasible help of Uzbekistan in this extraordinary situation.

“We are situated in the same river basin and only on the basis of trust and transparency can we ensure fair and rational use of water resources, as well as prevent threats and challenges of a transboundary nature,” President Tokayev said.

The two leaders reached an agreement on further improvement of mechanisms for joint management and use of resources of transboundary rivers. In this regard, the two governments have been instructed to consider the establishment of a permanent high-level ad hoc group.

At the end of the talks, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Emphasizing the special significance of this holiday and reverent attitude to it, the Presidents conveyed their sincere wishes of good health and longevity to all veterans and home front workers, as well as well-being and prosperity to the fraternal peoples of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

The talks were initiated by the Uzbek side.
